GR5 just sounds "right".Īnyway, this is all subjective but I'll been using GR5 as my main VST plugin for guitars. The sound seems to be coming right out from your speakers rather than from a slight distance behind which translates in dramatic dynamics & allows for complete control over space with additional plugins. I think that's why I liked Bias so much at first. I feel like S-Gear had the best reverb / acoustic space but some of the more aggressive attacks with crunch & overdrive sounded quite nasty. So YMMMW, but I picked GR5 for each sound in my blind test. The goal wasn't to spend hours tweaking everything to perfection as I won't do this in real life. I did not label the tracks, let them sit for a few days to allow myself to "forget" which is which, then moved them randomly and listened. Try to tweak each of the VSTs so they sound as close as possible with a great clean, crunch and slightly overdriven sound for each. What I did is run a blind test as follows: record some dry takes, duplicate them in Reaper. So I've been running so more tests and to my surprise Guitar Rig 5 came on top of the other VSTs I was demoing.
